National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has been in operation in University College Miranpur led by the Principal Dr. Narinder Kour Battra and Programme officer Assisstent Prof. Hardeep Singh since Dec 2012. The basic objective of the NSS is to arouse and enrich the social consciousness of students. The scheme is intended to provide an opportunity to students to engage in constructive social action, programmes, develop co-operative team spirit and gain skills in democratic leadership quality. The Unit has been organizing activities related to social problems widely.     NSS Activities:- NSS unit organize the 7-day and one-day camps, during these camps volunteers organize Blood Donation, Blood Group Testing, Eye Checkup, General Physical Checkup and Preventive Medicare and Immunization. They are also actively participating in fight against polio and AIDS. During special camps the volunteers engage themselves in physical labour also and help in such activities as road repairs, earth work for roads, whitewashing of school buildings, taking care of cremation grounds, eradicating congress and tree plantation. The NSS volunteers create awareness about social problems like population explosion, pollution,cancer, importance of girls child, evils of dowry system and harmful effects of drinking, drugs, and other intoxicants. As the theme of NSS for this year is “Youth for Haryali” special care is being taken for the plantation and protection of planted trees.

Red Ribbon Club

This Club was formed on 30th March, 2013 under the adept guidance of Principal Dr. Narinder Kaur. Since its beginning, Red Ribbon club has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. Communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. The club aims to educate the students regarding social causes and sensitize them against alcoholism, drug addiction, female foeticide and other socially related issues. Annual training camps and health care related trainings are conducted from time to time where in students and staff take active part in social work. The Red Ribbon team is led by its Nodal Officer Assistant Prof. Manpreet K. Sodhi who actively participates and works to sensitize the students against the spread of deadly diseases like AIDS and organizes Blood Donation Camps. Various Rallies, seminars, cultural competitions pertaining to art, photography, Slogan writing, exhibitions and tree plantation programs are organized to create awareness among the students as well as the society. . The mission of Red Ribbon Club is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.
